Bezos' "mentor" is stepping down from Amazon

The richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, thanked Jeff Wilke for the years of working together, calling him his mentor.
Jeff Wilke, one of the closest associates of Jeff Bezos, and Amazon's consumer chief, has decided to leave the company. This is stated in an official notice from Amazon sent to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The document states that Wilke will retire in the first quarter of 2021, after which Dave Clark, now senior Vice President of the company, will take his post.

Reuters notes that Wilke, who resigns from Amazon, had previously often been called a potential successor to the company's head, Jeff Bezos. Meanwhile, Business Insider points out that Wilke was considered the second most important person at Amazon, where he has worked for more than 20 years, and was accountable only to Bezos himself.

"I don't have a new job, and am as happy with and proud of Amazon as ever". So why leave? "It's just time", - "Business Insider” quoted a memo Wilke had emailed to Amazon employees.

In turn, Bezos, who is now the richest man in the world (Forbes estimates his fortune at $196.5 billion), called Wilke his mentor and thanked him for the years of working together.
